Flying To Hawaii With Your Dog

Recently a friend of mine decided to take a rather lengthy trip to Hawaii.  Her goal is to visit a family member for a few months, and to help her sibling there in Hawaii.  Well, the first thing I learned from her was that tickets to Hawaii aren't exactly cheap!  However the next thing that I was astonished by were the rules for traveling with a pet to Hawaii.  The airlines rules and regulations for flying with your dog to Hawaii are fairly intensive.  Since she is planning to stay in Hawaii for quite a few months, it made sense for her to take her beloved puppy with her for the trip!

Rules For Flying Your Dog To Hawaii

The Airlines rules and regulation that govern traveling with your pet to Hawaii state several tasks you and your dog must complete prior to hopping on the plane.

Flying Your Dog To Hawaii - Airline Checklist

  • First Your Dog Must Be Micro-Chipped!
  • Second Your Dog Must Be Vaccinated!
  • Third Your Dog Must Be De-Wormed, and Up To Date on Heartworm Medication, Shots, Etc.
  • Your Dog Needs Not One, But Mostly 2 Rabies Vaccinations Prior to the Flight!
  • You will need to have blood work done by a Veternarian office and have all the proper bloodwork and paperwork sent to 1 of 2 locations for approval.
What happens if you don't meet the conditions required for your dog to legally pass into Hawaii?

If there are any of these conditions that your dog did not comply with, you run the risk of Hawaii detaining your pet and quarantining your dog for up to 120 days.  Hawaii will decide if and when your pet is healthy enough to be released.

Crazy!
